_and friends is a live performance + artist development initiative founded in 2024 that aims to showcase new writing and performance to audiences while providing meaningful, resourceful and strategic support and opportunities for all guest artists.
We’re lucky in this industry that our colleagues become our pals, and we end up knowing some talented people who don’t always get the flowers they deserve. We hope ＿and friends will be the place to do something about that.
Our scratch night is our flagship offering as a new organisation - working on a profit share model, it’s a night of performance hosted variety night-style three times a year. I curated our inaugural event in June 2024 and going forward, each night will be curated and hosted by a different guest - no gatekeepers, no lengthy application processes, just an artist and the artists they know, love and want to create a platform for.
We are also running scratch nights in Edinburgh, in collaboration with out Artistic Producers Kolbrún Björt Sigfúsdóttir and Marion Geoffray.
We also have our own rehearsal space in Glasgow city centre, as part of the Outer Spaces network. The space will always be free to use, but we welcome collaborations on a skills exchange basis, or donations to help keep the space running.
